Would you be interested in completing a project on behalf of IASLT?

IASLT wishes to deliver on a project to develop guidelines to inform neuroaffirmative practice for speech and language therapists in the Republic of Ireland.

Speech and Language Therapists provide services to neurodivergent people. We promote and aim to deliver services within a person-centred model of care. 

IASLT wishes to support the profession in developing and enhancing person centred practice in the context of emerging neuro affirmative paradigms.

We are seeking expressions of interest from members of the SLT profession or others with expertise to project manage and lead on this work on behalf of IASLT.

The project will include the following:

  • Series of focus groups with neurodiverse service users across the lifespan, parents/guardians of neurodiverse children exploring what neuro affirmative practice means to them.
  • Series of focus groups with the speech and language therapists to understand/reach consensus on what neuroaffirmative practice means/is for the speech and language therapy profession.
  • Series of interviews with key stakeholders to understand more fully the Irish context and what is required.
  • Research national and international best practice around neuroaffirmative practice.
  • Write a statement/ guidance for SLTs working with neurodivergent individuals across the lifespan in Ireland, to inform best practice in the delivery of neuroaffirmative approaches to practice and service provision, including principles, key messages, learning needs and recommendations, in line with our person-centred model of care.

This work will be supported by a steering group comprised of IASLT members.

Timeframe:

Time frames for project completion: 6 months

Budget:

A project budget will be agreed. The amount should not include organisational costs of in-person consultations, such as venue hire or catering costs, which will be covered by IASLT. It is envisaged that IASLT may be able to provide support in sourcing relevant consultation venues.
