IASLT are delighted to celebrate, in the run up to International Stammering Awareness Day (ISAD), the launch of our Position Paper on Stammering ‘SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY - AN ALLIANCE WITH PEOPLE WHO STAMMER IN IRELAND’
“The stigma which people who stammer can experience, coupled with practices of discrimination underpin the need for public awareness and education, and the importance of SLTs’ collaboration with the stammering community. This paper supports the rights of people who stammer to experience living without discrimination, without the expectation to conform to a norm of fluency, while also acknowledging their right to seek increased fluency as and how they wish to do so” (Quote from PP "Speech and Language Therapy - An Alliance with People Who Stammer in Ireland")
This event is open to SLTS and all interested parties, including the stammering community, friends, allies, employers, educators, policy makers and all those interested in diversity, equality and inclusion.
