Speakers:

  • Emma Wall, IASLT Professional Standards and Practice Manager -  Emma graduated with a BSc. In Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Ulster in 2001. Emma’s clinical experience has been focused in the adult acute and rehabilitation settings. Emma has experience in service management having worked as an SLT Manager. Throughout her career Emma has been committed to patient centred high quality service provision. She obtained her MSc in Clinical Speech and Language Therapies Studies in 2008 from TCD, and completed the HSE RCSI Future Leaders Programme in 2017.
  • Caroline Bouse, IASLT Professional Development Manager - Caroline graduated with Honours MSc. in Speech and Language Therapy (professional qualification) from University of Limerick in 2013, and has worked in various paediatric settings including primary care, CAMHS, and privately. Caroline currently chairs the National HSCP Professional Development Network, and completed a Diploma in Project Management in 2024.
  • Claire Mortell - Claire is a Speech and Language Therapist Manager, who has worked in the disability sector for the past 19 years. Having a keen interest in human rights based approaches and person-centred practice, and recognising the gap between espoused healthcare policy and delivery in practice, Claire completed a MSc in Person Centred Practice in Health and Social Care with distinction through Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. She received a nomination from the university for best post-graduate research, and presented this research at the recent IASLT conference in December 2023. Claire currently supports SLTs working on CDNT and Adult ID teams, as well as ongoing clinical work in both these areas. Claire is a member of IASLT PSSC committee and SLT representative on the Disability Advisory Group (DAG) under the National Clinical Programme for People with Disabilities (NCPPD).
  • Elaine Whelan - Speech and Language Therapy Manager for East Limerick/North Tipperary.  Elaine qualified from University of Sheffield with a BMedSci in 1999.  Elaine commenced working in Barnsley Community Care across both paediatrics and adults in community caseloads, an acute hospital and older persons and stroke rehabilitation.  Elaine worked in Beaumont Hospital in Older persons Rehabilitation and St Josephs Rehabilitation Unit in Raheny from 2004 until 2007 when she commenced working in the Mod West Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team based in Limerick. In 2021 she took on the SLT Manager post which currently works across the divisions of Primary Care, Older Persons and disabilities. 
  • Norma Quirke - Is a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist, having graduated from University College Cork in June 2024. Norma is currently working as a paediatric speech and language therapist in Ballynanty Primary Care Centre in Limerick. Her passion for speech and language therapy began at a young age, growing up with a brother who has autism. She was inspired by the profound impact that speech and language therapy had on his ability to communicate and connect with others. "I'm excited to share my experiences of navigating the interview process and transitioning from university into my first role as a qualified therapist. My hope is to provide insights into what to expect after securing that first position and offer some guidance on how to make the most of this transition in your career."
