The National Strategy for the Provision of Neuro Rehabilitation outlines that people with disabilities should have priority access to a range of community care services including speech and language therapy.
The Community Neuro Rehabilitation Teams (CNRT) are currently being established in REO’s areas across the country, and Speech and Language Therapists are key members of the CNRT.
The Speech and Language Therapists who are working in disability teams and primary care also play a key role in supporting people with neurological conditions live well at home, and help these individuals maintain the benefit from input from specialist teams.
The principal objective of the joint HSE NAI and DFI Neuro Mapping project, which took place in 2024, was to engage with people with neuro-rehabilitative needs and service providers to establish the ‘as is’ picture of community Neuro-rehabilitation. These engagement sessions took place across CHO 2,3 and 6, with 56 people with neurological conditions participating, in addition to 137 service providers.
