Overview:
The what and why of a SLT’s role and responsibility to include oral hygiene in patient care. Brief intro / refresher of oral biome, 24 hour cycle & bacteria build-up. Stats on bacteria, CAP, HAP, hospital costs, and infection control benefits (red LOS, etc). Oral hygiene as part of the initial patient assessment, Plan of Care, and treatment/intervention. Tools and procedures for skilled intervention for patient population (PO, critical care, etc). EMR documentation & verbiage tips. Staff training and Inservice to other clinical staff often required.
