This workshop is aimed at speech and language therapists who work with children (aged 8-14) who stammer. This training was previously delivered by Marie Halpin on behalf of IASLT and is being delivered again due to demand and interest following the previous event. Training will take place over half a day on the morning of Monday 9th May 2022 9.30am -12.30pm This course will not be recorded.

About the Presenter:
The session will be facilitated by Marie Halpin. Marie recently presented a workshop on Stammering, as well as webinars on ‘Telehealth’ and on ‘Bitmoji Virtual Classrooms’, on behalf of the IASLT. Marie has a wealth of expertise across the age ranges, and has worked across education settings, clinic services and specialist contexts. Her areas of clinical expertise include working with children who stammer, and with children who are autistic.
Her background includes working as a specialist SLT in Autism in London. Her role involved working within a neurodevelopmental diagnostic team, schools team and Autism specialist provisions. She is trained in the delivery of a range of related therapies, including Attention Autism, SCERTS, Hanen More Than Words, Lamh etc. She has a strong interest in neurodiversity-affirmative practice.
She also worked as a specialist SLT at The Michael Palin Centre for many years, which involved specialist consultations, second opinions and clinical work with children, young people and their families, as well as providing international trainings and contributing to the research. She is trained in in a range of therapies for people who stammer, including Palin PCI, Family Communication Skills Therapy, The Camperdown Program, SFBT, CBT etc. She developed and leads the study day ‘Stammering Plus- supporting CWS who are autistic ’ which runs at the Michael Palin Centre, and has presented on this at an international level at the Oxford Dysfluency Conference 2021. She has contributed to a number of publications, including the Palin PCI manual 2020.
Within recent years, Marie worked as the National SLT for the NCSE in Ireland. She led on national SLCN training for teachers at primary and secondary level and provided sustained in-school support. She continues to work for the NCSE and remains involved in research projects.
